MERCURY WELFARE PROGRAM

In 1924, the Mercury Club adopted financial and personal backing of the work with handicapped children as its welfare activity. This action followed shortly after the establishment of the new school for handicapped children at 3708 Linwood Boulevard, which was named after R.J. DeLano, President of the Club in 1923, who gave generously of his time, energy and finances to the work for the disabled children.

Our program is and has been a modest one, but always in the interest of supplementing the operating budgets of several voluntary agencies providing care and treatment for children whose handicaps are too severe for them to be cared for fully in their homes.

The Mercury Club realized that all of its members have their special interests in supporting churches, the United Campaign, or any of a number of highly worthy causes. Participation in the Mercury Welfare Fund is purely voluntary and contributions are tax deductible.
